I just finished reading the Identifying Similarities and Differences. The first thing that came to me as an insight is that the research presented in this article is at least 11 years old which leads me to question how credible the findings are in the 21st Century. That's not to say there isn't some relevance in what was presented, but a lot has changed with our learners since the research was first presented...especially the research that was from the 1980's. Finding relevance in my content area will be a stretch here since finding similarities and differences is not something that really applies in Media Production or Video Production. It has some application in Media Analysis when comparing new media to old media, or new technology to old technology, or if a question like, "How would a reporter handle this topic in 2010 compared to 1960" was posed.
In addition to a Venn Diagram for video editing, I could create diagrams which illustrate trends in media from Present Day in comparison with trends from The 1960's. Another way that I might be able to use Venn Diagrams is to compare the difference between An Informative Speech and a Persuasive Speech. I think if I had class Wikis, Webspiration would be something I might use more frequently. As it stands right now, it is quicker to draw this on the dry erase board to show examples of similarities and differences.
